The reporters helpfully remind readers that "Bernie Bros" was a "derogatory dubbing," but then they matter-of-factly state the supposed basis of the dubbing -- "aggressive online attacks." Many of these "attacks" were exaggerated, ridiculously spun, or outright fabricated.

And on top of that: the logic behind "Bernie Bros" even being a "thing" in the first place is preposterous. Random online commenters being held up as a reflection on the candidate himself? Insane. NYT "normalizes" this nonsense by folding it credulously into a wider narrative.

Introducing a term in scare quotes by saying it was a "derogatory dubbing" is pretty much the exact opposite of a "matter-of-fact reference". You don't usually need to fake up your takes this way.

They state the basis for the "Bernie Bro" dubbing matter-of-factly: namely the "aggressive online attacks," many of which were exaggerated, falsely spun, or outright fabricated.

Indeed, except using the term 'reporters' does a disservice to actual reporters. Perhaps 'stenographers of the power elite' would be more accurate (if long and awkward).

The amount of times Hillary/status quo supporters have accused Bernie supporters of sexism: 1 000 0000+ times. The amount of evidence they've ever provided over the years: 0

From the New York Times archive, a story that sheds some light on why Dems hate Bernie. He's never sucked up to the establishment & had the gall to endorse Rev. Jesse Jackson in 1988. He even got slapped in the face by a woman in a crowd for endorsing Rev. Jackson.pic.twitter.com/K6af7EcdrZ

The bernie bro narrative was a test case for framing fictional online mobs for political difficulties. After 2016 they were russian bots.

Honestly, I still believe that Bernie supporters and Trump supporters have more in common than they think. However, the people they support couldn't be more different. Still, the two camps can come together the combat the fake news of the media.

When it's needed, the behavior of a candidate's supporters will always be used against them.

Nobody knows if the "bros" were male, so this is bull, as is the whole"bro" narrative.

Huge connection between the outrage culture and the elite culture. The outrage culture is baisically the phenomena of smearing opponents by throwing inflammatory labels at them to slander them. This is for them can be an effective strategy to destroy their opponents reputation.

Since the NYT is running full page ads pledging commitment to "the Truth", this designation must be true.

You know she used a similar "Obama Boys" attack back in the 2008 primaries, right? Accusing opponents of sexism is apparently a standard tactic in her campaign playbook.
