Another insight from McChrystal today: ISIS has not been defeated, because ISIS is an "idea." That's the basis on which perpetual war is always waged -- against an "idea" that can never be eradicated (and which military force actually fuels). More reason to ignore McChrystal.

After 18 years of blood and treasure and no appreciable gains I think it's safe to say we're on the losing end of this no matter when we leave Afghanistan.

You can disagree on policy with McChrystal, but his opinion of Trump was spot on lol
-
Was McChrystal's opinion of Obama spot on? How about on Biden, NSA Jones, Holbrooke, or Eikenberry? McChrystal loves war…he's against anyone not sending US troops to combat.

Wasn't Stanley very publicly, summarily dismissed by Obama, following public disagreement?!
-
Yes, dear old Stanley and his staff came off as a bunch disgruntled juveniles in the Michael Hastings,Rolling Stones interview. Facts are Stanley's a disgrace to himself & the Uniform he onces wore. But hey, there's big money & name recognition to be made for bashing Pres Trump.

This sounds like the Vietnam policy, guys are getting killed and we cannot leave what do we do? The answer is send more troops. Everybody fast forward year history text to how Vietnam ended. Now Google how every foreign military Adventure in Afghanistan has ever, has ever ended.
-
Yes yes yes 1000 times yes, So much wisdom and insight to be mined from history but the brainwashed berserkers always think it doesn't apply to them because their paycheck depends on it.

Obama should have withdrawn all our troops from Afghanistan the day after he was first sworn in as president. Ten-years and tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths later, it remains obvious we will never “win” but will eventually leave.
-
Both Obama & Trump won office with the goal of ending wars. Obama gave his Generals obedience & we got more wars. Trump is giving his Generals orders- maybe we will get peace.

I don't know that Davos is planning with this move, but I want out of Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, etc. But they are working hand in bloody hand with with ISIS. The US has 20 bases in Syria, so anyone using the 2K troops trope is either lying or the other beds are 4 ISIS.

Riiight. Let's just do exactly what Russia wants us to do instead. Surely there can't be any downside to that.
-
Is that why we're fighting in Syria's civil war? to annoy Russia? Why aren't we fighting in Yemen's civil war? Or Libya's civil war? If Russia didn't want us in Yemen or Libya, should we send combat troops to annoy Russia? Russia isn't a peer…they are like Mexico but w/nukes
