Sort of like how hurricanes "rattle and upend assumptions" about the price of bottled water and generators.

Price-gauging during hurricanes "rattle" ordinary people fleeing natural disaster, while withdrawing precipitously from warzones rattles entrenched factions of the military-industrial complex, but sure, other than that, very similar situations.

Adding
@mtracey to my list of people to never, ever trust -
Came here to say the same. I’m not sure how this dude keeps showing up in my timeline (I sure as hell do not follow him - mostly it’s ppl I do follow humiliating him with replies to dumb shit he says), but every single thing I’ve seen him post is stupider than the last thing.

Nonsense. That we’ve had terrible policy is true to a large extent. But undercutting our own plans and allies on a whim is definitely NOT the way to improve our foreign policy. Nor is catering to violent, oppressive dictators. This does not make the world safer or more peaceful.

They want to have their cake and eat it too. They spend as little political capital as they can get away with on presenting the necessity of fighting a swathe of Islam and in fact deride doing so as Islamaphobia. Then they act surprised that the public doesn’t support the wars.

Now on the side of the villain in the latest M:I movie?

I’m amazed by how deeply people underestimate the operative day-to-day value of institutions and what it would really mean to disrupt them. We take so much for granted. When I hear arguments like this, I think “PRIVILEGE”
