There you have it. Mattis resigned in protest of the Syria withdrawal. Cannot think of a historical analog to this. Hard to imagine a better encapsulation of how stubborn and intractable the ideology of interventionism ishttps://twitter.com/elianayjohnson/status/1075892750808158208 …

Not a fan of Trump but he's right here. What he has unintentionally done is again show up the elite political/media establishment and their thirst for the US being at the forefront of anything military related. Nothing less will do. It even unites large sections of both parties.

Mattis threw a temper tantrum and resigned. Trump had already said we are withdrawing from Syria and the Pentagon contradicted him and embarrassed him. If Mattis can not follow orders from the CIC, he is correct to resign.

His resignation letter is unintelligible. He's protesting something, but it isn't even clear. It's just boilerplate language of imperialism.

I think Mattis would have liked to have been a stand-in for Slim Pickens in the Dr Strangelove movie to ride the bomb down. It would have been his destiny to take the BIG ONE down to that Big Blue Bitch that some called Mother Earth. Mattis has some serious Mommy Issues,

When McNamara resigned in ‘67 wasn’t that over troop deployments in Vietnam? He actually wanted to draw back, and LBJ was hawkish but it was over Vietnam.
