You can support bringing troops back home from an unauthorized war in Syria while also agreeing that Trump is doing it for the wrong reasons and in the wrong way.

What are these "wrong reasons," and why do they matter if the outcome is desirable?

Sigh. Because some of us are bothered if a president uses foreign policy to distract from domestic crisis and corruption. And because some of us think there are plenty of unanswered questions about Trump’s ties to Russia. And because this isn’t how you run a government.

What's your evidence for this withdrawal being the product of some corrupt Russian deal, other than typical frenzied media speculation? Are you aware Trump expressed reticence about long-term military commitment in Syria all throughout the 2016 campaign?

are you aware that Trump is a serial liar? Do you follow the news headlines? Do you not wonder: why Syria now, why Afghanistan now?Are you really so naive that you believe Trump really doesn’t like Middle East wars when he’s ramping up for a monumental conflict with Iran? Sigh.

You say there are “wrong reasons” afoot, but can’t name them or provide evidence for them. You make a procedural complaint (“this isn’t how you run a government”) without acknowledging that following established protocols is how these wars got so entrenched in the first place.

While I agree we must bring home our troops as soon as possible, there is no plan in place to address the humanitarian disaster in Syria or advance negotiated peace. We MUST end these unauthorized wars, but the manner in which we do it matters. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trumps-decision-to-withdraw-us-troops-from-syria-startles-aides-and-allies/2018/12/19/80dd8ab2-03b2-11e9-b5df-5d3874f1ac36_story.html?utm_term=.299c0e7f9e0c …

My speculation is that Erdogan made an ask for not continuing to embarrass Saudi and US over Kashoggi. That ask might be for the Saudi US strategy on Syria be rescinded and we are seeing that horse trading.

After a while, for whatever reason, they didn’t get paid when they were promised. I’m sure there’s probably more to the story there but I was just a boot. After a couple weeks of protests, all of a sudden the protesters were gone. Guess what came next? Rockets & mortars.

If Trump discovered the cure for cancer, they would say it's just another distraction. What about the First Step Act prison reform? Is that a Trump charade too disguising some secret Putin influenced corrupt plot?

He literally just did. He said as a distraction. That's a reason. It's a wrong reason. One he didn't explicitly state but I'm sure would agree with is also so, as part of the distraction, he could claim he "beat Isis" as a victory to his supporters in lieu of his wall.

It’s blatantly obvious the reasons are ‘wrong’. It’s Donald Trump. The correct reporting is to ask why? The aluminium company sanctions, Syria on a whim, Mattis retiring, Kelly retiring, Stone plea deal. Someone connect some fucking dots
