Trump's ability to tweet a directive, and then have the bureaucracy conform to it, is especially suited to something like the Syria withdrawal. Because allowing the directive to emanate through the typical channels likely would've killed it via bureaucratic squeeze.

I think the point is that Trump tweets his directives directly to the people. If the people really get behind them, it is far more risky for the bureaucracy to squash them. If the people don’t, the tweet is ineffective.

Trump is gaining confidence in his instincts and will trust them, over establishment advice, more often going forward.

Exactly. According to Bob Woodward's book, this has happened before with Trump's attempts to end the war on Syria. Bypassing the psychopaths who actually run DC was the only way to get it done.

The idea that a bureaucracy has that much power is terrifying.

Nominally this is how the government is SUPPOSED to work, slowing processes implimented so that they can be given a thorough going-over before actual implimentation- but in reality, more often than not they just go to bureaucratic red tape hell even when they're good.

It's really quite true. By using Twitter, Trump not only bypasses the MSM; he also bypasses the deep state.

A tweet is not a directive. It's more like floating an objective to gauge the amount of push back before issuing any official orders. If you were an American General in Syria, would you start mobilizing troops based upon a tweet? @OIRSpox @CJTFOIR

Reports say the Pentagon has known about this decision for about a week? So it isn't like he decided this on a random whim and tweeted it a few minutes later. He just announced it via tweet vs a traditional press conference though.
