A decision made despite overwhelming opposition by military leadership is a rarity in American presidential history, and is a victory for the principle of civilian controlhttps://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/1075465661923631109 …

The decision to pull out of Syria was made despite overwhelming military advice against it. It is a major blunder. It it isn’t reversed it will haunt this administration & America for years to come.

Opposition because the short term and naive worldview you and many others share. I do love how ignoring the problem is now seen as rational rather than compete intellectual cowardice.

Or...,and I am going off of decades of concrete fact here, the people who have been stearing the ship into conflict and after conflict each with catastrophic results should no longer be the captains despite their extremely long record of experience with failure.

I am often haunted by memories of the people I could have killed but did not. Why, why didn't I bomb people and occupy their land? Let my hard-earned lesson stop you from making the same mistakes I made.

This is true. But also, at this point it's like a football team scoring a touchdown when they're getting blown out at the end of the 4th quarter. The civilians need to get on the scoreboard in the first half for a change.

That Trump's decision was made in face of overwhelming military, CIA and Establishment opposition may be the best thing about it. AND, it should be acknowledged that it took a self-certain personality like Trump's to do it against such intense pressure and scorn.

I agree in principle, but the motivations here are unclear and his behavior to this point so questionable that we have no idea if the gain will be worth the cost. Still, we shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Or in 2001. Or in 1990.
