If, as Nate Silver argues, Russian social media activity wasn’t even among the top 100 most important factors in the 2016 election, what does it say that political/media class emphasis on this issue has been so unwavering and relentless, now more than two years later?

Don't pay attention to our real systemic problems, pay attention to our global economic rival as we increase military presence & bomb its allies. Repeat over & over so that you instinctively dislike and distrust them when the hot war we've been preparing for finally breaks out.

they don’t want to change their corrupt political oligarchy which is a playground for the super rich. Instead of examining how angry voters are with endless war, cronyism and wealth disparity they blame it on Russia and the media which is owned by the same people follow suit

Russia Phobia resurfaced about 30 seconds after the DNC emails were released. It diverts the public's attention from corruption and actual critical issues and creates a scapegoat for everything that's wrong.

#Guccifer2 was purposely creates by CrowdStrike two days after Julian Assange announced an upcoming publication on the DNC. This was all carefully planned out as a response to a leak they knew was coming.

The purpose of this is clear. To exhaust and demoralize the left, to keep it in a defensive posture, to get people to give up, to make them believe the enormous effort required to overcome their BS is a hopeless task.

It says 1. Critical thinking skills & digital literacy need to be prioritized in US schools & community courses 2. Probably THE most divisive force in the USA is corporate media, producing incessant, inane political theater which also serves superbly to distract from real issues.

Gee, maybe it would be better if nobody were lying, or if we had reliable mechanisms to call out all the lies. Which party has a documented history of relying on lies (& on voter suppression, & on rewriting laws to overturn clear voter preferences) and which doesn't? Remind me?
