There is no political demographic in the United States agitating for continued war in Yemen *other* than the defense industry and their patrons in Congress. The inability to change course on this is a massive failure of representative government

War = Money. They don’t see lives they see dollars from arms sales.

We need, among other things: 1. Multi-seat districts with RCV 2. Automatic voter registration 3. Ban on closed primaries 4. A constitutional 'no confidence' provision that can trigger off-cycle elections

is it a "massive failure" of representative government, or is that government working exactly as intended?

Wheres the political constituency for continuing any of our current foreign interventions? Hold a “leave Afghanistan” national vote and it’ll be like 99% leave. There is no constituency for any of this. Let’s at least get back to the necessity to constitutionally declare war.

The question will arise and arise in your day, though perhaps not fully in mine: Which shall rule — wealth or man? Which shall lead — money or intellect? Who shall fill public stations — educated and patriotic freemen or the feudal serfs of corporate capital? Edward G. Ryan

I’d say it’s less a failure of representative government and more the inevitable result of adopting the idea that money equals speech when it comes to the financing of political campaigns in a representative government.

We should recognize that there are gradations of failure. WWII may have planted the seed, but the tree of failure can always grow.

America has transitioned from Republic to Empire. The Bipartisan War Party (aka "representative government"), forever ruling America, works for their overlords: the Military Lobby and Wall Street

It was never truly a republic. Remember how many genocides this colonizer nation has conducted, including the Philippines in the early 1900s.

Even if US withdrew its arm sales and intel sharing from the conflict, that won’t stop Saudi Arabia from supporting the Sunni government lol. If you think America is the only factor keeping the war going, you were definitely dropped on your head as a kid.

That may be true, but why should the US continue to participate in the blood bath? We can't make the Saudi's stop, but we can sure as hell stop helping.

There are 6 billion people in the world that live on less than $10 a day. Direct democracy would turn it into 7.5 billion. #CarefulWhatYouWishFor
