It's perfectly natural to dislike the IRS, but the practical effect of the GOP's spending cuts has been that poor/working people receive just as much scrutiny as ever, while corporations and the rich laugh their way to the bankhttps://www.propublica.org/article/how-the-irs-was-gutted …

Absolutely. Badmouthing the IRS is a con game.I've been poor & then well-to-do. Many sweet deals when u get to high incomes. Tax avoidance and evasion is a big industry.

I left behind libertarianism the day a friend wealthier than I complained about all the taxes taken out of his paycheck when that number was higher than the ENTIRETY of my own paycheck.

from the graphs in the article, it appears that 'just as much scrutiny as ever' means they are rarely audited.

Get rid of the income tax and replace it with nothing. Problem solved.

Yes. The wealthy can afford lawyers to fight. The poor you can terrify into submission with a simple $1000 bill.

Yup, nothing new here, except it needs to frickin END. Conservative admins yield stricter IRS collections; liberal presidents they cut deals.

We all know IRS, SEC etc never go after the big guys bc it is “too much work” so they go after little guy and claim success.

What spending cuts? The 2 year budget deal pretty much increased spending across the board.

When the US fails a treasury auction (which is coming), what about then? What happens when your debt load is so large no one will lend you money? It will be interesting to see who you blame for that. Yeah, spend more, more, more. Four & a half trillion a year & counting.

The IRS should have reined in targeting inconsequential tea party groups for partisan reasons and avoided giving the GOP a pretext for defunding. Unfortunately for everyone they couldn't help themselves.

Poor people get a bad deal in many ways but I really don't think IRS audits is part of that deal. Waste of the agency's time.
