I take no joy in people losing financial security and Weekly Standard did occasionally have decent articles, but the intellectual tradition it broadly represented is better off in the trash bin

The image of George Will wandering aimlessly through a parched, unrelenting desert, struggling in vain with a beaten, empty canteen seems somehow fit right now, if comfortably surreal. Then again, maybe it’s just the damned cannabis.

There was “almost too much concern and attention for, quote, the people,” Kristol complained back in 1996, so “[w]e at the Weekly Standard are pulling up the drawbridge against the peasants.” 20 years later his castle fell.https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1996/02/23/the-castle-storms-back/bf949788-7c52-4f1e-9f83-8d58ee91242d/?utm_term=.9d919f6f5c3e …

I'm not a believer, but if I stumble through the pearly gates after death I'll be sure to ask God what the point with Bill Kristol was.

Put simply they are now a conservative magazine shouting down at their readers to vote for Hillary and democrats, how long could they have lasted?

I stopped reading that magazine at least eight years ago, so this isn't about Trump (who they seem to be blaming). The Weekly Standard made itself irrelevant. And I wouldn't be surprised if many of the folks there were paid shills. Good riddance.

I know someone who reads The Weekly Standard to get “balance” against “liberal media”. You might as well read the history of the Whigs to get balance because Neocons are done.

It also somewhat signals a decaying of neoconservative ideas influencing modern conservatives as neocons appear to shift leftward again
-
If I recall correctly, many oh the Original Neocons were refugees from the Fourth International.

Not the wars that were supposed to only last weeks? I reread Kristol & Kagan's The Gathering Storm and Mohammad Atta Was Here sometimes to remind myself that just because a writer has a way with words does not make what that writer says fact:https://www.weeklystandard.com/robert-kagan-and-william-kristol/the-gathering-storm-1689 …

Neoconservatism was started by leftist Jewish intellectuals who realized the left didn't give a shit about Israel. But to them the hawkishness of the right could be exploited to benefit Israel's survival and ambitions in the region.
