Gonna be awkward as Hell when Trump dies. I plan to watch Don Lemon’s coverage, in particular, to see if he can contain the glee. I imagine it’ll be like watching SNL actors trying not to laugh during a sketch.

In a world where children die of cancer, a general rule should be that we spend as little time as possible mourning those who pass away at 94. It's sickening to read the unfiltered praise suddenly heaped upon the warmonger.

I have a problem with both the heaping of unworthy and cringy praise but also using the news event of someone passing in an advantageous way just to vent one's spleen and vomit ugly and demeaning criticism. Show some class and just keep quiet until the proper time.

How about just saying RIP and abstaining from policy hot takes for about a week. Lots of current events to talk about now.

Somebody needs to balance out the undeserved respect and praise being dished our.

Truly, it's almost as if we're living in a country where the media are subserviant to the political establishment. If I didn't know better, I'd say we have court reporting, not a free press. But then I am reminded by
@nytimes that for only a $1 a week, I'll be informed, really.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I spent a while watching Fox, MSNBC & CNN last night. Weirdly, only Fox had critical coverage; CNN had weirdly reserved language about him being ‘sometimes misguided’ at one point.

The media is certainly capable of criticizing the dead; it does so all the time. It may choose not to in this instance.

Highlighting the positive aspects of someone when they die doesn't eliminate history, doesn't prevent the writing of accurate biographies, doesn't keep journalists/historians from doing their work. There's nothing wrong with a respectful pause of criticism for a few days

I see nothing wrong in taking a solemn approach to reporting a death initially. The criticisms can wait until a later time I think. Too many people just can't wait to feast on the corpse, that's the problem..

what i find baffling is the hagiography for a man who as CIA director was ultimately responsible for running Operation Condor - right wing death squads that butchered hundreds of thousands of Latin Americans just for their left wing viewhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMif-qZ-YSQ …

From another angle (not opposite but certainly not the same), I’m tired of all the leftist newscasters acting like they supported any of the Bush presidency when it was happening.
