Hagiography is bad, allowing bogus mythology to dominate public discussion is bad, but I'm not a fan of gratuitous dunking-on-the-freshly-deceased either. Maybe because revering the dead is a humanistic impulse, and worth honoring in some way. I don't know. Contradictory thoughts

I say hooray but without joy. I sorrowfully celebrate the only kind of karma these elites seem to face. I celebrate a little less evil in this world. I hope W.Bush deeply feels the pain he inflicted on countless others.

Dear Mr.
@mtracey, would you like to talk about the legacy of Pres. H. W. Bush and the reactions to his passing? I could interview you on my podcast "Conversations with Slava." Here are examples of my work: https://soundcloud.com/conversationswithslava … Thank you! Kind regards, Slava Zilber

I derive no pleasure, let alone joy, from the death of anyone. But neither do I give deference to murderers and war criminals simply by virtue of the fact they've passed on. The former is sadism. The latter is the lowest form of hypocrisy.

Joy over the realization that even the richest & most mischievous can't cheat death is IMHO justified.

I appreciate that you're always looking for that Aristotelian golden mean between the opposite vices at the extremes.

Correct. When a mass-murdering criminal lives to a ripe old age and dies peacefully without a whiff of justice for his sickening crimes that is no cause for joy or celebration.

Sure, all reasonable goals. But freshly-minted ideologues see things like this as a time to compete for moral superiority. Many who have payed attention over decades (and didn’t vanish during Obama) can calmly acknowledge the awful things, but see the full context.

If you perhaps to read this tweet in... say, David Niven’s or James Mason’s voice, it makes perfunctory sense.

It's not like I'd giggle "We came, we saw, he died" or anything, that's just psychopathic.

We should speak and think well of the dead whenever possible immediately following their death, and then after an appropriate period of time we can assess their legacy more honestly if necessary. All humans understood this before our modern day brain fevered trash world.

Honestly all the way for me.

When his son dies, am I to resent those, say in the middle east, whose families, cultures, countries, have been on the receiving end of America's genocidal imperialism? At a certain point the body count should be directing the impulse.

Ok well there is something profoundly wrong with you. This is a jumbled mess of perverted moral logic where simple human decency should be. You are clearly unwell and should seek counseling. Get some help. Unfollow.

Who likes it? I was repulsed when Osama Bin Laden was supposedly killed by U.S. seals, and the twitterverse was engulfed in celebration. Who celebrates another human being's death? Still despots like Bush needn't be whitewashed as "good".
