Yes. But that was an exception rather than a rule in a presidential primary — Sanders doesn't have anything like the political climate that Clinton did that allowed her to clear the field early. She was about 30 points up on any competitor in name recognition. Sanders isn't.

Hillary Clinton moved from 28% support in 2006 to 65% in 2014. Sanders in 2014 had 5% support & has only moved up to a paltry 13%, even w/his countless cable appearances, book tours, & stumping for others across the country.
