A false pundit consensus is being erected against Bernie Sanders, because for all the appeasement and flattery Dem officials have attempted, they still consider him an intolerable threat. Meanwhile, his foundation for a 2020 run is stronger than ever:https://spectator.us/bernie-sanders-democratic-front-runner/ …

Another attack that will be used against him, and sadly must be prepared for, is that he’s somehow in hock to Russia. Yes, the evidence is virtually nil, but it doesn’t matter in this political climate

Bernie’s bigges problem is independents that supported him in 2016 don’t have any reason to believe he is capable of actually fixing the things he says are broken. His support is limited to progressives that don’t care about whether he would be an effective leader.

This isn't borne out by the data. He frequently did better than Hillary among independents and even conservatives during the 2016 primaries

Their donors do not like his program and they'd rather the party lose than adopt it. That is the sole reason.

There's a simple path to derailing Bernie Sanders running for Dem nomination in 2020: run someone to the Left of Sanders who is serious enough that s/he gets media coverage. Dems don't want to do this.

A simpler path is to deny a non-Democrat the ability to hijack the party apparatus and make him run as his Russian-backed self. No pan. No flash.

Michael Tracey, your article states: " … although the FBI investigation into his wife’s land deal in Burlington would have to be affirmatively dealt with at some point". The crowded candidate field in 2020 will make Bernie Sanders stand out even more; he will pack stadiums once again, and polls will show him crushing Trump yet again. The media will not get away with ignoring him again.

He won't be running against Clinton though. He'll be running against younger, more exciting candidates who are only slightly to the right of him.

Bernie was almost no one 2016, made huge name recognition gains, if not for DNC cheating, would have won. Instead of bitchin' he held his lip, camped out 2/3 of the way up the mountain, continued spreading his message across the country, including areas Trump won.

So that when he runs in 2020 he doesn't have so far to climb. He won't NEED the DNC AT ALL! he can run as an Independent, (which I believe he will). He HAS been the most popular politician ever since 2016, ya know. Even his fundraising/email list game is tight. We can do this.

Excellent article Michael. They’ve been relentlessly attempting to nullify his significance since he entered the 2016 primary & he’s only become stronger & more popular. His policies resonate & they can’t f*ck with that. Sanders will run & he’ll do it smartly.
