Bernie Sanders has a national political infrastructure, locked-in support from significant portions of the electorate, and an alternative media ecosystem that is intensely devoted to him. The fact that his 2020 chances are being so heavily downplayed is borderline delusional

He's most likely going to be running against a huge field of people who are very similar to one another in numerous respects, so even eking out a plurality would be sufficient in the early stages of the primary (as Trump demonstrated last time)

Of course it won't be easy and nothing is certain, but "the fundamentals" are absolutely there for a run that is on much stronger foundation than the conventional takes would have you believe. His political capital has not diminished since 2016, but grown

He's even done things to address relatively marginal weaknesses, like on foreign policy (successfully ushering though the truly groundbreaking Yemen resolution). He extracted a concession directly from Jeff Bezos! Name another national politician with that kind of sway

The attacks are going to be brutal (endless identity stuff) but he has the resources in place to withstand them. And for people moaning about age: he's four years older than Trump and almost certainly in better health (fewer cheeseburgers) so whatever. Ageism is very offensive!

In practice, it's going to be more or less Bernie vs. 2 or 3 uninspiring neolibs who can buy most of the coverage, either through donor backing (Harris?) or personal fortune (Bloomberg). I bet embarrassing policy lightweights like Booker probably won't last long.

He got a bigger share of the Dem primary votes than Trump got of the GOP primary votes, while the GOP primary was still competitive.

If you believe spy agencies even military wants him, you are not good at this. Agencies will treat him far worse. Least, Trump figured out how to make the military takes his side.

Well said. However, If Tulsi runs, she will be able to stand out among all Democrats as the ONLY true anti-war candidate (Bernie still doesn't attack the Pentagon). Based on your analysis, which is correct, she may even unseat him as the favored front runner in the primaries.

No doubt there will/would be some tag teaming against him in precisely the same way as more centrist Dems did against Zephyr Teachout in the NY AG primary debate.

If he runs as a Dem, they'll steal the primary from him again just as they did for Hillary, just as they did for @DWStweets against @Tim_Canova.

A prediction: Trump in 2016 was the last candidate the mainstream media could put into office & Bernie in 2016 was the last they could keep out of office.

What's gonna be hilarious is watching the D.C. Establishment flocking to Trump if Sanders actually becomes the Democratic nominee.
