Kind of a banal insight at this point but if Obama had repeatedly and publicly threatened to punish major American corporations for their business decisions the entire conservative free-market think tank/media complex would've declared the USA a communist dictatorship

Probably true, but punishing major corporations by removing government subsidies should make this palatable for those who aren't so blinded by their Never Trump mentality that they approve of the subsidy removal but take displeasure in how the subsidies are being removed.

Its not free-market when you're the recipient of a massive taxpayer bailout.

Just go back to reactions and commentary on the Chrysler bail-out and you won't have to speculate.

Yeah, but didn’t the U.S. taxpayer bail GM out to the tune of $50B+? That makes them fair game.

Why subsidize GM when it is cutting American jobs? What is the point? There is no longer any reason to seek the benefit when jobs are cut.

You were sleeping. Obama ignored US contract law and decided the bailout to reward Union workers & stiffed the investors who were higher order creditors under the law. He went in & told officers to step down. We are on the recovery path from being a banana republic thanks to DJT.

At least he would have done something. Add to that his legacy of not prosecuting one Wall Street banker and I’d say, well, was he lazy? Too green? Corrupt?

The CFPB essentially made banks a vassal of the US government, as designed by Sen Warren. Also the US Gov under the Democrats did take over the health insurance industry. So I guess we’re all used to it now.

And maybe the entire conservative free-market think tank/media complex is a big part of the problem. America needs to rethink EVERYTHING it appears to stand for... in a big hurry. None of it is working.

Obama only rewarded the companies that did what he wanted. The rest were left out in the cold.
