Maybe not so much today, in light of that massive proposed corporate giveaway in NY and DC. I think people are catching on to Amazon.

Democratic officials are the ones who orchestrated the massive giveaway. Sentiments might be shifting among rank-and-file Democrats.

Just to clarify, dozens of Democratic NYC Council members, State Senators and Assembly members have been adamantly speaking out in opposition since the Amazon deal was announced.
-
I'm aware that there's not total unanimity among Democratic officials, but the two most prominent Democratic officials in the state not only support it, but orchestrated it

Walmart hires about 1.5M Americans. Amazon hires about 0.25M Americans. Those who care about workers should support Walmart by a factor of 6.
-
Paying 1.5 million employees a poverty wage, leading them to require government assistance, which those employees in turn spend at Walmart because local stores were put out of business is not a badge of honor. I’m not defending Amazon, but your cited statistics are meaningless.

Personally think Walmart criticism is way overdone, but agree on the other points. Democratic establishment loves playing class warriors but cozying up to moneyed interests

It’s pretty obvious to anyone with a brain and a computer that Amazon treats their employees much better than Walmart ever has.
-
Uh, have you been reading all those stories about the warehouses where workers pee in bottles and the grueling schedules they make people deliver under?

Check old archives. Walmart lobbied to DNC to not support a min wage rise. Amazon did the min wage rise themselves. Your perception isn't aligned with real facts. There is no W vs A in consumers view. It is simply about PR and market share battle.
-
Yes, and Walmart eventually acquiesced to a bunch of environmental initiatives that won it plaudits as a green company. Amazon did not just do a wage hike in a vacuum out of the kindness of their hearts.

Amazon is run by a Democrat who has considered running for major office. They also collect an enormous amount of data about their customers - unlike Walmart. If we had journalists in this country, I would think they would want to look into this - it’s a troubling combination.

Seems like a questionable take when items on Amazon can be hundreds of dollars cheaper and the book prices are almost always the lowest (so low that they've driven many competitors out of business, in fact)

Reminds me of all the love Costco gets and all the hate that Walmart owned Sams club gets.
-
Umm Costco is known for being one of the best employers in retail. Workers make on avg $21/hr, get stock in the company and good health insurance. They have very low turnover in a high turnover field. Sam's Club is owned by Walmart and has the same crappy pay and benefits.

great argument for less gov't intervention since like most things govts do it's biased

I like eBay. I need a coat for $30. Ms X has a nice one for $40. I offer her my $30. Ms X needs $30 so she accepts my offer. I got a coat, she got the money everybody happy. And neither The Walton Family or Jeff Bezos gets a dime. Win = Win.
-
I'm am looking at eBay more these days. As a barter system, I think it will make a big comeback.
