All mass shootings require societal introspection to some degree, but an Afghanistan vet who served during the most violent period of the war, clearly deteriorated mentally, and found no economic opportunity afterwards should necessitate *extra* introspection. It's a disgrace.

Let's focus on one the thing (aside from guns) that connects most mass shootings: modern SSRI antidepressants.https://www.cchrflorida.org/antidepressants-are-a-prescription-for-mass-shootings/ …

Is it just that mentally ill are often prescribed medications? (Ssri's are prescribed as the cure-all(placebo effect))

Does whatever jumbled justification that this dude’s wrecked soul shat out really matter more than a discussion of how his government and society failed to intervene?

It doesn't occur 2 most people and any MSM journalists publicly that if we didn't waste last 15 years in a shithole called Afghanistan, Cali tragedy might not have taken place. Just a thought.

The debates around healthcare and welfare I understand, there are different valid opinions there. Why isn't every combat veteran living in total comfort?

let me point out the obvious. cops call for these kinds of evaluations all the time. Second, the professionals who examined him thought he was ok to leave at the time. Are we now to ASSUME that whenever someone is QUESTIONED they are "CRAZY" no matter the diagnosis?

we know a total of jack-shit about this guy and yes, our troops are often times asked to do horrible shit overseas for our "national interests" but that doesn't mean they are broken or disturbed or should not be GIVEN THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT.

I don't see how anyone can use the word "clearly" in reference to an event about which we know little. I'm still trying to figure out how that woman climbed through a broken window without a scratch.

There is an ethos in the military that seeking psychological counseling is a career ender. I think it should be mandatory; that would erase the stigma. My wife is a psychologist who specializes in service members and their families so I do have some idea what I’m talking about.

Agree. But did he deteriorate mentally as a result of war, or more worryingly, did the US govt arm & deploy someone abroad who already possessed mental health issues, risking the lives of other servicemen and of those the govt purports to be democratising & protecting?
