I've long given up on understanding what @mtracey's principles are. I'm beginning to think his only principle is to do whatever he thinks will annoy Democrats.

Maybe we should discuss what our principles are someday! Could be interesting.

Okay then. Why exactly do you think "go vote" is an ideological statement? It's no more an ideological statement than "turn on the TV" is a film review. And why does it bother you so much that you're being told to vote?

What bothers me is not being “told to vote,” it’s when corporations and others who clearly have an outcome preference (for Dems to win) dress up their exhortations with false neutrality. The phoniness bothers me. And I say this as someone who favors Dems controlling Congress.

Okay so, you're bothered that an organization secretly supports the same party you support but isn't actually saying it but secretly kind of is? What you choose to view as a problem is truly bizarre.

Corporations that wield major influence in our lives advocating political positions under deceptive pretenses seems like a pretty big issue, even if I happen to agree with them in this instance.

You haven't established that they are advocating anything! Literally all they are saying is, go vote. Your view that there should be *less* voter outreach because there's some sort of hidden agenda in the word "vote" is really strange and really indefensible.

Do you think the people who run Tinder notifications have a preference in terms of Dems vs. GOP?

What the hell does that matter if the *content* of their message doesn't? "Go vote" is a completely nonpartisan message. Should only people who don't vote and have no political opinions encourage voter turnout? Your complaint makes no sense.

The point is they’re encouraging people to vote because they desire a particular outcome. If they didn’t think their encouragement would help achieve that outcome, they wouldn’t bother. So the performative corporate neutrality is meant to obscure their true intention.

So in your view, nobody who has political opinions should engage in voter outreach? Participatory democracy is bad because some of the people encouraging it think they would be benefitted by it? One day I hope you read back through these tweets and realize how silly you sound.

If a doctor told you "don't drink gasoline as a cure for anxiety," would your response be "Ah ha! This is obviously a plot to sell Prozac! I'm guzzling premium unleaded, take that Big Pharma!"

You know, it’s quite possible, plausible, even likely that the folks at Tinder don’t have a secret plot to keep you from getting laid, and in fact the ladies just don’t like you.

I have to say you have a point here. Since voter suppression is a key strategy of the GOP, in a binary system that means that voter promotion is a Dem strategy. However, if you want the system to work, you should support the message “go vote” no matter who promotes it

That argument *might* hold water if you could prove that the message was going out to Dems *only* and not Repubs. In actuality though, it's a wash.
