Amber Alerts have habituated people to accept the government's capacity to simultaneously blast everyone's phones with intrusive messages under a "public safety" rationale. Yes, "think of the children" and so forth. Still needs to be pointed out.https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1047579613487144960 …

The creepiest aspect of these "government alerts" is that no one consciously opted into them. Somehow the government just acquired the power to simultaneously commandeer every smartphone in the country, and no one particularly noticed.

Government of the people, by the people, for the people means we opted in by default, just like we "opted in" to paying taxes.

Yeah I just don’t get it, no one has sketched out the part where this can be abused in such a way that is not obvious and they don’t immediately get sued over it???

I think people are justifiably skeptical about government alerts after the "accidental" missile alert in Hawaii that caused a panic.

What I found interesting recently is that they reach tourists' phones too. Technically I know what's going on, but for many who don't these can come across as unnecessarily alarming (obviously without belittling what's going on). It's hardly appropriate to co-opt tourists as eyes.pic.twitter.com/EMCt20yQVC

I agree with you, but yesterday I experienced my first tornado warning in NY by the same alert system telling me to seek shelter. Largest tornado ever to affect my region touched down just 5 miles away.

if all they did was SMS u once in a while that would be one thing. Anyone who fails to appreciate that they literally listen to you even while your're not on a call, and capture all your pics, vids, has their head in the sand. https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/hightechtel.appspot.com/o/videos%2Fbb-privacy.webm?alt=media&token=874ed51b-f7dd-40cf-84ca-add9fc3d1854 …

Very old news. This stuff is a public utility, same as broadcast radio and TV. I don't have a sudden urge to vote Republican and the Fed should be able to send alert's through all media. Silly. Let's go back to why the United States is still in Syria and the Iran hypocrisy,

Amber Alert is a scam. It’s most likely (knowing how disgusting people in power are) an alert for pickup of a child for trafficking. This is the world we live in. I don’t accept those on my phone. Want no part of it. #FranklinCaseCoverup #Pedogate
