No conservative defense of him that I’ve seen acknowledges these amply demonstrated lies. Rather than address it, the pivot is always made to media/left-wing unfairness. Fine: let’s stipulate that media/left is unfair. How does that justify blatant lying?https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1046372256245587968 …

As someone who meticulously documented Hillary Clinton's carefully-phrased deceptions and lies, and was told it didn't matter because of some convoluted lawyerly parsing, to be denounced by conservatives for applying the exact same rigor to Kavanaugh is amusing.

You are treating all of this just like extreme fundamentalists treat scripture, which is a category mistake. It is like the Jehovah's Witness that want to argue there is an indefinite article instead of definite article in John 1. The judge's testimony is clear. I didn't do it.

There's no "category mistake" when it comes to under-oath testimony, which is always very finely parsed because it can carry criminal penalties. Even if he really "didn't do it," telling lies in service of making that point is still disqualifying in its own right.

So is he blatantly lying or is it now something else? Is it on purpose or is he just wanting to be clear he didn't try to rape someone at a party that he believes is totally fake?

Dear lord please don’t let me ever become politically important enough that I have to explain the differences in 35 year old house parties to a political barracuda who gets more money if he eats me.

The only deceit here is yours: having defined Kavanaugh's term in a way that makes his statement untrue, you conclude he lied. A reasonable person would ask how Kavanaugh defined his term, then ask whether his statement *as he meant it* was untrue.

For you to sit here and pretend that this pathetically thin case constitutes deceit is itself a work of inherent dishonesty. No, Kavanaugh did not lie. He simply made clear he never attended a party where he got insanely drunk and tried to rape someone.
