Conservatives who ordinarily claim to reject emotionalism in politics (facts not feelings, etc.) were profoundly moved by Kavanaugh’s unprecedented emotional display. Maybe everyone is susceptible to emotional appeals, even if there’s political utility in pretending otherwise.
Claiming to have no memory of the alleged incident isn't corroboration of Kavanaugh. According to Ford, the day was otherwise unremarkable so there was no reason for any of the "witnesses" to remember it.

"Simply put, Ms. Keyser DOES NOT know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford,"

Doesn't work for "Ms. Keyser". Per Ford's story she was abandoned alone with 3-4 boys, two of whom had been drinking heavily. Whatever happened later to explain it, it was out-of-the-ordinary, so there's a good chance she'd have remembered. No certainty, of course.
