Conservatives who ordinarily claim to reject emotionalism in politics (facts not feelings, etc.) were profoundly moved by Kavanaugh’s unprecedented emotional display. Maybe everyone is susceptible to emotional appeals, even if there’s political utility in pretending otherwise.

My experience in the court system tells me that you must ignore emotion in making judgments. I’ve seen people convicted of crimes bc they didn’t show the “proper” emotion, and victims not believed for the same.

Reminds me of the "alternative facts" hypothesis. As I recall, mainstream punditry mocked K. Conway as a moronic professional liar for tacitly implying that facts are only parts of phenomenological data we intentionally select to present as truth (granted, her usage WAS foolish).
