All comparisons to Gorsuch are misplaced. That was an inconsequential swap of one identical vote for another (Scalia). Everyone knows Kavanaugh is intended to be the long-elusive 5th vote to overturn Roe, Obergefell & countless others. A war is to be expected - & warranted.

Not wholly comparable, but if Dems had the means to block Gorsuch and force Trump to produce a more “moderate” nominee, it would’ve been a huge political blow early in the term and I think they would’ve done so. Tactics were already “maximalist” the moment Trump took office...

Right. It was politically necessary for most Dems to implement “maximalist” opposition tactics starting Jan. 20, 2017, even it those tactics didn’t produce anything substantively.
