The author of the piece is the one who framed every accusation as existing in a “gray area,” specifically contrasting the offenses (including the physical ones) with illegal sexual assault. So if you’re frustrated with this perception, be frustrated with the author.
Litigating the ins-and-outs of private, "emotionally manipulative" behavior over blogs and Twitter is also an emerging "norm" that has some deleterious implications, and I think avoiding that consideration is narrow and myopic in its own way.

Because that's how the entire set of allegations is explicitly portrayed! Even the accusations with a physical element are portrayed as having an "emotionally manipulative" dimension, which is what makes them allegedly bad. As you yourself noted, rape/assault is not alleged!
