Large segments of the public, Congress, the foreign policy apparatus, think tanks, and even the president recognize the futility of ongoing war in Afghanistan -- yet the war only continues. Even on 9/11 they won’t defend it. The decision-making process here is abjectly broken.

Symptom of a broken political system. Numerous unpopular policies, like Afghanistan, Syria intervention, War on Drugs, tolerance of money dominating politics, Russiagate fixation, not only continue but are not in any real way challenged, by people's reps or media. We're stuck-1/2

-in a system completely non-responsive to electorate, where outside influences (mainly MONEY- oil, MIC, plutocrats, security state, Israel/Saudi) trump fervent, broad public opinion. If system functioned, at all, it would have lurched forward a bit by electing Bernie 2016. 2/2

the want to use Afghanistan to export instability. If they can't control the region they want to make sure no one else can either.

It makes sense when you realize that the war is not meant to be won, but to ensure a permanent Western presence in the heart of Asia so as to force project into Russia and China’s underbelly:http://inthesetimes.com/article/21347/war_on_terror_george_bush_afghanistan_occupation_civilians_msf …

I believe Trump is trying to find a way to end it, one that helps the region not get more violent after our leaving. It will be worse if terrorists fill the void Knowing him he has a plan

Futile doesn't mean unecessary. Futile is frustrating. We have created a trap for ourselves. We stay in and we lose lives. We get out and we lose lives to exported terrorism (country will fall to radicals). I say nuke the region. Or leave and read about more failure and death
