As I saw the canonization ceremony unfold, I had to grant a certain amount of respect to the way the "free press" graciously shields us from possibly distracting aspects of his service like his tireless push for us to bomb Iran, depose Assad & be way up in Russia's Commie grill.

I've been to more than my share of funerals. All of them had faults, big and small, but for a peaceful moment we silenced the criticism to charitably commemorate. I was no fan of McCain's policies but why not wait till he's buried before de-canonization begins?
-
We'll be told to show show what many figure is the respect we should accord the dead when Henry Kissinger kicks the bucket. They'll ignore his his quotes disrespecting "common" soldiers, his goading us to blast small Asian nations to smithereens, etc.. I'll say, "Good riddance."
-
BTW-Nobody tells me what and how to feel. I make my own decisions on that.
-
Fair enough & I feel the same, Butch, which is why I don't laud the guy. I was moving to Az. as McCain was solidly opposing a MLK day (speaking of not honoring the dead). Unapologetically calling people Go*ks & saying he always would? Didn't work 4 me either. To each his own.
-
Odd you didn't get my point. I oppose almost every policy of McCain & I didn't laud him either. After 5 years of torture I understood, but didn't condone, his anger toward some Vietnamese. So many WWII vets used the "J" word till death. While McCain forgave his captors. Oh well.
-
I got U, Honest. U disagreed w/lots of his positions but felt his death calls 4 a certain amount of respect. I don't. He was bombing & killing people. I was one of those who saw Nam as a war crime. But, I'm glad we're reasonable guys who can civilly view this issue differently.
-
I called for a brief moment of 'silence' as a courtesy. I said nothing about respect-which is earned. Was he a war criminal? Was LeMay for carpet bombing Japan? Tibbets-Hiroshima? Harris-Dresden? Hate war, honor the warrior? Tough questions for me. I get u 2 brother. Peace

"Republicans & Democrats, we stand united today..." YEAH, because you're all globalists who care more about enriching yourselves than you care about the well-being of America!

That’s a good characterization, the MSM attempt to get the general public outraged at Brennan’s security clearance removal fits this mold too

And Meghan McCain's delivery of parts of her speech, like protestations: 'He was a great man!... a great man!'

Good point. And while doing it, they are globalists who wrap themselves in the national flag, and are irreligious people who use a cathedral to give the veneer of religion. Wholly fake.

It’s definitely NOT a funeral service, but an opportunistic “call to unity” rally for “inside the beltway” pols & MSM. A “spirit cooking” counterdemonstration against “swamp” detractors: Trump, alternative media, “woke” citizens, etc! McCain’s death was timely!
