He wore his beliefs on his sleeve, or whatever the saying is. For that he should be respected.

Very sad for the world that people are praising this bloodthirsty man.

Such hyperbole. Such distortion. His "core animating belief"? Give him a war and he would be happy? Yes maybe too pro-military in his thinking. But with his background, how could he not have been? Too bad he did not have the moral clarity of Mr. Tracey.

@TimTomT Some would argue that he should have been antimilitary specifically because of his experiences as a POW. Victims of trauma often have 2 decisions to make: become an agent of trauma or work to ensure trauma doesn't enter the lives of anyone else. McCain chose the former. - 6 more replies

Exactly! Making war criminals into patriotic heros because they served other war criminals & perpetuate more warmongering for the sole purpose of keeping a waring nation killing innocent people or to force other countries regimes to fit your own warped ideas is psychotic.

Things get out of hand after someone dies. People try to out-do each other in praising the newly deceased and, predictably, ridiculous heights are often reached before the thing fizzles out. Age old tradition.

Irony being this policy of never-ending expansion & influence was what he saw as keeping away moral depravity. A view of the world informed by the mid-century consensus of empires rising while militaristic & falling due to said depravity. A consensus our elite still subscribe to.

1/2 Have u considered if ppl r saying nice things, not cuz they actually believe it & not cuz they're giant hypocrites carrying a line, but rather, to help dilute the negativity being spewed so soon after his passing? Is it possible they just have empathy for his family?
-
2/2 If that were the case, it would be those who so vocally disapproved of the man that would be driving the fevernt praise of him. Ever wonder what they would say if ppl didn't start vilifying him before his body was cold? Just something to ponder....

Seems bad timing, bad taste, disrespect & unkindness are animating you today, Michael. “Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates: At the first gate, ask yourself “Is it true?” At the second gate ask, “Is it necessary?” At the third gate ask, “Is it kind?” ~ Rumi
