I think he evinced some admirable self-awareness, which actually goes a long way toward *dispelling* conspiracies. Again, he should be subject to criticism, but "too transparent about the political orientation of Twitter employees" is not a good criticism https://twitter.com/mekosoff/status/1031566973375860738 …

I think your general point is correct - admitting our biases is a good thing to be doing - but I don't think Dorsey claiming to be "left-leaning" (or contending that there is no ideology behind Twitter) is all that self-aware.

It's admirably self-aware compared to what many critics would apparently have him do, which is to be in denial (at least publicly) about the political orientation of the company.

I think that recommendation is a bad one, agreed. My point is that I don't actually think that is what Dorsey's or Twitter's orientation is, so I don't consider him thinking he is left-leaning to be particularly self-aware.

By "left-leaning" he probably meant "not by nature in sync with the sentiments of conservative Twitter" which, yes, is a fairly skewed definition of what "left-leaning" is, but at least he's aware that he has *some* bias in the first place, which is a good first step.

Having self-awareness is hard! It requires introspection and self-criticism. So the bar is indeed low!
