I definitely agree with Ilya, though journalists should, of course, be brutally honest about the ideological backgrounds/associates/beliefs of folks like Bannon and Miller. But this thing of blanket-coveraging small gatherings of far-right assholes is a problem.https://twitter.com/ichbinilya/status/1028742664232071168 …

eh I think it isn't crazy to be concerned about white supremacists -- I just think there's a risk of giving them exactly what they want. I'd argue it's the same basic journalistic urges that account for disproportionate coverage of, like, kids taken by strangers

Of course it's not crazy to be concerned about people who have noxious beliefs, but when every journalistic choice seems to inflate the standing of these people, it's worth examining what deeper motives are at play. (Disproportionate crime coverage also has a political motive)

As far as I can tell, the only thing people actually appreciate about neo-liberalism is that it isn't Nazism, so disproportionate coverage has to do with establishment seeking negative legitimation.

Considering that much of that media sells an audience to advertisers, no ideology needed to animate that choice, at least in many cases.
