If you want to prevent certain people from seeing certain "content" in their social media feeds because you feel they'll be harmfully influenced by it, you are exhibiting a paternalistic, censorious impulse. Maybe the impulse is even justified, but at least be honest about itpic.twitter.com/ZP4eKza2E6

There's lots of speech I find harmful, and which I believe could have harmful influences on others. But I generally wouldn't advocate that people be prevented from accessing the speech, even if it's "for their own good." That's where you cross into paternalism/censoriousness

Do you know words like censorious before using them, or do you look them up before tweeting? I see more new words from you than anyone I follow in twitter

"Censorious" isn't an especially obscure word!

We keep baby proofing the house instead of teaching self control & consequences.

The most harmful speech is from Neocons pushing wars to kill millions, but those are the ones censoring not getting censored so the whole thing is a farce in the first place. It is mainly to protect the powerful not the people.

At one time John Brown's speech was considered harmful.

More directly that’s a straight exit from the democratic framework, going from power to The People to power to some people.

I'm enough (old enough, open enough, smart enough, faith enough) to handle what comes. I don't want it blocked, trigger warned, or anything else. I'll block or otherwise not engage if I don't want to see something. My sensibility must not limit someone else's free speech.

I hate censorship. But I draw the line with communication that is clearly intended to cause physical harm, and that can be OVERT or subtle. It's a slippery slope but we have to err on the side of safety... The Sandy Hook parents DID face threats due to Jones hate speech. Not ok
