This is a vexing electoral paradox. The lower the vote total, the easier it is for a critical mass to challenge either party's status quo. As you scale up, the task becomes much more difficult, if not impossiblehttps://twitter.com/daveweigel/status/1027194001890451457 …

In 2010, the Tea Party’s biggest upsets were in low-turnout primaries (DE, AK) and conventions (UT). The biggest lefty upset this year was #NY14, where less than 30,000 people voted. In any higher turnout race the Dem “establishment” is doing pretty good.

It is almost as hard as getting journalists to grasp the distinction between "less" and "fewer."

What we do need is an investigation and recount because the votes “switched “ significantly after the voting machines computer glitches and there is a problem there.

It’s dangerous or very advantageous. It’s exactly why the recent local primary, the left was pushing hard to get out our vote. It’d mean more. Generally not a good thing for society as a whole to tune out tho. Vote by mail here makes a more informed & participatory population.

Exactly why the establishment always insists it's so important that *everyone* vote.

It's a paradox only if you presume a party isn't generally representing the political will of it's constituency. Of course there's more to the story (gerrymandering, suppression, voter despondency), but yes, also check in with one's own assumptions about what people actually want

I guess the way I would look at this: The first step is choosing *not* to vote for someone. The second step is to vote for alternative (getting to that point requires being convinced that the alternative is good, which means seeing their ads, coverage, etc., which means money)

Sample size. It's the same reason a handful of tennis players only ever win major tournaments but dozens of golfers do.
