The people who demanded this change appear to have quite a bit of power. And they were able to get the tech companies to bend to it. Not the kind of successful social pressure campaign I'd be inclined to celebrate

My preliminary response to this is that the terrain is so objectionable that any "wins" it ostensibly produces are ephemeral, and will probably backfire. So they weren't "wins" at all.

Because I suspect that any “win” which endows these private corporate officials with vast new discourse-regulating powers is probably not a genuine “win” in the long run

They exercised a new power yesterday (simultaneous cross-platform expulsion.) They may have exercised antecedents of the power before, but yesterday was a different thing.
