I'm not particularly heartened by how this particular social conflict was stratified. Again, it appeared as though some unseemly combination of prestige media, Congress, and cultural elites successfully pressured the companies into action. Not some grassroots uprising.
I think many of them have been on a "fake news" extermination crusade since sometime in November 2016, and they would've sought out this change with or without constituent/consumer demands. It's an ideological project for them.
