I've been accused countless times over the past 24 hours of "defending Alex Jones" -- again, it's so much easier to scream about how horrible he is than to grapple with the grave implications of his sudden cross-platform banishmenthttps://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1026933709507837952 …

That's been the tactic of censors for centuries: they start with someone who is so utterly hated and marginalized that everyone is blinded by their hatred for the first censorship target that they cheer, and forget that they're endorsing a principle & power that will then expand.
-
The newly-entrenched "Alex Jones principle" will now be used against anyone who can be described as promoting "dehumanizing" or "hateful" speech. Jones is the perfect test case because no one wants to be caught dead "defending" him. It's all so predictable and depressing.

Equating support for free speech as also being support of the likes of Alex Jones is just pitiful. What the hell is wrong with these people? Are they completely incapable of critical thought?

You rightfully point out concerns of tech companies controlling speech is not defending Jones but then say someone who thinks Jones should be banned due to a history of inciting violence (not simply hate) as fawning over and trusting tech giants, neither characterization is fair.

Now… If they said that he would not be allowed to speak at all and that it was hate speech in the public forum… Such as some European countries do… And yes that would be a violation of his free speech. But who knows maybe taking a cue from Jones this is all just an act lol

Mostly Democrats pushing for and cheerleading this the entire way through, and pushing for more, raises some very thorny constitutional questions. Not to mention doing it a few months before an election.
