It's always amazing how so many people claim to understand this danger in theory, but in practice are perfectly happy to cheer when extraordinary new powers are wielded against objects of their hatred https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/facebook-censor-alex-jones-705766/ …pic.twitter.com/fEpmnuowZY

Should be added: large sections of the intelligentsia feel the same way as the politicians. They claim to be wary of these companies' power, but cheer when new powers are exercised. They just want the power wielded for what they see as benevolent, discourse-purifying purposespic.twitter.com/2ypaqt58Xt

Did you even bother to read the Taibbi piece? (“70 percent of Americans get their news from just two sources, Facebook and Google. As that number rises, the power of just a few people to decide what information does and does not reach the public will amplify significantly.”)

Our discourse (if you can call it discourse) has been reduced to the low intelligence and maturity of a kindergarten fight - w/name-calling, finger-pointing, screaming, censorship & bullying. The Deep State has used Edward Bernays's work well!:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiKMmrG1ZKU …

It’s always amazing how you fail to see what a monumentally bad look it is to cape for white supremacist maniacs like Assange and Alex Jones and sincerely believe we all see you as a triumphant defender of free speech. Your racism is showing.

Can we not drown out his paranoid ranting with other, better rhetoric? The solution to hate speech is more speech, not less.

isn’t that called advocacy? or organizing? you think of this as the public square. I understand this & that’s why i want to ‘purify’ (that word sounds familiar!) society from actual threats to social freedom. Civil liberties die letting fascists weaponize lib democratic norms

This is the same Berkeley Boomer bullshit that got us the ACLU forcing Charlottesville to hold the Unite the Right rally against the city's will. That bullshit dogma has failed us abjectly.

For those who don’t want to have to think too much about this, I’m pretty sure there is a Star Wars episode which deals with this topic.
