Well, Alex Jones spreads fake news and makes money with them. He is in a long tradition going back literally centuries. Fake news do need to be stamped out - no one has a civil right to misinform people for financial or political gain - but also from 'respected' press also. (1)

I don't trust anyone to determine what is fake news and what isn't. That's a terrible amount of power to delegate to anyone. Power corrupts and all that ...

So true Michael, social media r digging their own graves thinking that censorship will create trust, instead it is making everyone paranoid & distrustful. I hope
@Jack & others will realize that "fake news" & "hate speech" r trivial compared to the anger & distrust they created -

Alex Jones & his ilk being denied their money flow from gullible people (some of which want their existing prejudices 'confirmed') is not problem, it's achievement; the next step should be to challenge the lies & obfuscations coming from the halls of establishment journalism.(3)

he is not being denied money flow the people donating to jones are not going to stop donating cus he has been banned from social media... it has the opposite effect. they now vieuw him as a 'truth teller unther siege' which will only legitimise and expand his positions...

Before Bill Clinton signed the 1996 Telecommunications Act, media monopolies were illegal. Reporters competed for ACTUAL NEWS, and TV showed Vietnam War horrors & contradicted the official BS. Not today.pic.twitter.com/NoJLu3ZyL0

Mr. Tracey; Would you be kind enough to release your list of real news sources and the fake ones. The ones we should listen to or read and those we should not. Thanks.

It should be people who keep small and big, professional and 'citizen journalism' in line, but that demands an informed public and Alex Jones (and many in the mainstream press) seek to mislead people so that they would be more easy to control. (2)

everything about how this has come about should be alarming people, no matter where they fall politically. it's very telling not a single progressive channel worth their salt has cheered this.

Basically, a return to status quo ante the internet and populism. That the left is cheering this on is just more proof how thoroughly they abandoned enlightenment ideals the moment technology gave everyone a printing press. It's going to be purges for wrongthink all the way down.

Or...it’s just private companies that want to exercise their rights to not put up with total bullshit hate on the platforms that they’ve created and pay the bills for hosting the content. Amazes me how republicans think they have a right to piggy back on other people’s work.

Amazing that people will quickly cling to partisanship to protect their position rather than acknowledge that free speech is important for everyone. Especially those we disagree with.

As my friend in media said — fake news -- prior to trumps derailment of the phrase -- is a thing that existed ala "Pope Endorses Trump" articles shared on FB prior to election. lots of it came from the e european regions. corps didn't give a shit because, again, traffic and money

if the fake news conspiracy is to bestow power to unaccountable elite, you’d think the “fake news” charge would be led by FB then. calling them to account (tho electeds have not meaningfully done much) is not bestowing them with more power.
