    Michael Tracey Retweeted Chuck Todd

Chuck Todd was a working adult journalist during the Iraq War. To *still* have zero awareness of the media’s role in “causing” that fiasco is a mark of true delusionhttps://twitter.com/chucktodd/status/1026081978842603522 …

This is outrageous. I’m sorry, I don’t know what else to say to someone accusing me and my colleagues of causing war. I know he’s baiting us to respond. I’m taking the bait in hopes that rational folks realize this is wrong and dangerous. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1026069857589227520 …

TV stars like Chuck Todd see themselves as card-carrying members of “The Media” -- i.e., a professional class with interests to protect. That’s why they become self-righteous and defensive when "The Media" as an entity is maligned

You can still practice journalism without regarding yourself as a member of this professional class. In fact, maintaining that detachment usually produces better journalism (and analysis)

Of course. The Pentagon has no veracious appetite 4 war. Neither does the weapons industry or partisan politicians. In fact but for the media the US history of warfare 90% of the time since day one would not have happened. 20 plus decades of slaughter in Indochina was all NYT's

Some journalists have acknowledged their failure regarding the Iraq War. So, while this is all true, I wouldn’t say there’s been zero accounting for their errors.

Media doesn't "cause wars." This is absurd. I know Trump isn't interested in nuance, but, surely we shld b. Your continual anger toward Dem establishment has led to embracing the tweets of a selfish twit with only his own interests on his mind.

Of corse they do. Media is an integral part of the war machine. Its job is to spread propaganda and manufacture consent.

Vietnam shares a similar pattern. Some of the press came around though and begin questioning American involvement. But more to the point, It is accurate to say the press had a role in helping elect Donald J. Trump as POTUS, too.
