It's telling how, before expressing reservations about Russia hysteria, skeptics are obligated to profess: "Make no mistake, I believe Mueller's investigation must go forward!" Sorry, but... Mueller's investigation has been a prime source of the hysteria

Should it be shut down? I wouldn't necessarily advocate that. But before it was ever launched, I said it was only going to foster ever-increasing paranoia and hysterics under a law enforcement pretext. The last year plus has shown that concern to be well-grounded

In order to be regarded as "Serious" one must solemnly affirm the sanctity of the Mueller investigation, and proclaim that it must be allowed to proceed unchallenged. Mueller himself has assumed a deity-like status. This dynamic alone is unhealthy and produces gross distortions

The public has been trained to look at a special prosecutor with virtually limitless authority as a cherished Guardian of Democracy -- our last hope. He has been allowed to totally dominate national politics. Lots of attacks on him are facile and partisan, but he is not God

I agree that the need for the caveats is a bit annoying, but I also think it's reasonable for folks to ask if their critics support the investigation or not. The fact that I do does not mean that I think it should get anywhere near the attention it gets, or that Mueller is good.

I find the "do you support the investigation" question to be reductive. If I say "Yes," does that mean I support the indictment of alleged Russian Twitter trolls, and all the attendant hysteria that ensued? Does it mean I support strong-arm prosecutorial tactics?

Maybe you can just say, "I think it's worth investigating who was behind the phishing attacks on the Democrats."

Yes, I do think that is worth investigating. Unfortunately, wanting a full accounting of the facts has been bounded up with attributing infallibility to Mueller.

Well, yes, there are many unfortunate things about how Democrats have approached this issue, which brings me back to my point about me being okay to note that I think the phishing should be investigated in the context of bringing some of those things to folks' attention.

The thing is, if Mueller is the one doing the investigating, then saying you want phishing to be investigated essentially means you are endorsing Mueller. It's not as if there is some other neutral body conducting an investigation into phishing.

While I'd like a full accounting of the facts with respect to the phishing, that doesn't lead me to therefore give Mueller my unswerving support.

I guess I don't think the only choices are "be wary of saying I support the investigation" & "Mueller gets my unswerving support" (I note in my piece, for example, that he pushed the WMD myth 15 years ago).https://34justice.com/2018/07/24/a-plea-to-progressives-reject-russia-hysteria-and-prioritize-social-justice/ …
