Inflating the Iran threat is the most consistent long-term ideological project of the neocons that many fervent Trump supporters claim to abhor, but they'll still conjure up any kind of rationalization for why senseless anti-Iran belligerence is actually really great

seems all too easy. 'right wing' is trained to hate/fear brown people, 'liberals' are trained to hate/fear Russia and anyone who has a good relationship with Russia (except Israel of course). Between the two right wings, we have endless support for endless war.

‘15 Clinton says U.S. will never allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon http://brook.gs/2bfhiGq  “I would not support (Iran Deal) for one second if I thought it put Israel in greater danger. I will not hesitate to take military action. There is absolutely no reason to trust Iran.”

The pattern (for those paying attention) is Trump out-screaming regimes that have previously relied on war threats, intimidating neighbors and small violent actions in order to extort concessions from western nations who'd prefer them to shut up for a short while.

It's arguable that Israel and Saudi Arabia are the two countries that have the most influence on our foreign policy. And because THEY fear Iran more than anything else, so do we.

The other side of this coin is that the supposed never-trump neocons are quick to get on board whenever Trump acts like a belligerent thug towards Iran (or Syria or any of their other favored targets)

One good reason: If it is a gambit, just like the "fire & fury" gambit in case of North Korea, to incentivize Iran to dismount its "America the Great Satan" high horse and see the wisdom in coming to the peace table with substantive concessions, unlike what they did with Obama.
