It's amazing how many otherwise smart people have seemingly lost touch with reality when it comes to this issue.

I've lost count of the number of people I normally respect who now routinely sound totally deranged

In my orbit, most of the people I know who identify as "progressive" don't buy into this red scare, McCarthy-era baiting. That's coming full-throttle from Hillary fanatics & peeps who loved Obama & defend establishment Dems, "Liberals" who blame Bernie, Stein & Sarandon for Trump

Not "any" means. The most likely means is through the adoption of progressive economic policies but they're allergic to that notion because it threatens their consulting racket. They would rather lose to Republicans than win with progressives, IMO.

They’re not as much “addled by Trump“ as they are completely consumed by their hatred of Trump. And, the hatred is so virulently all-consuming, that it’s constantly mistaken for reason. To mistake the spewing of hatred for debate is very self-destructive.

Definitely the latter Michael. And sadly, one of the Millennial's beloved politicians of the US has let himself follow this bs as well.

The hatred is powerful enough to make some of them see GWB as some kind of statesman. That is quite an indication.

I understand establishment democrats orbiting around anti-trump hysteria: they have no vision for the country, so focusing on the evil of the other side is their best strategy. but the progressive agenda is strong and should be kept front and center. Trump can dig his own holes.

Why go to bat for dear leader so much? I thought you were a journalist. I thought you were smart. His corruption alone should disqualify him for any office. But here you pedantically rant day in and day out how the narrative is wrong. I hope no one ever hires you to write again.

I would argue that those who use these Red Scare tactics are actually *not* progressive; neo-McCarthyism is a reactionary tendency.

I want a start with an accounting of all foreigners who are paying members of, or donors to, the ACLU. Whose "interests" are they really serving? Who might their handlers be? Let's apply the universal formula universally: $=speech=influence & collusion=treason.

1/If NeoLiberal/Centrist/Corporatist can keep the party base focus on Trump and his grotesque behavior, then, they can neglect the voter's true needs. 2/Cynical guess is most, if not all of them, do not care to learn from the past.
