Lots of talk about how press freedoms are under siege, but the now-mainstream view that journalists who reported newsworthy information were accessories to a democracy-destroying espionage plot is fairly 'chilling'https://twitter.com/joshrogin/status/1017808894167539713 …

American reporters who took stories from Guccifer 2.0 or DC Leaks have to wonder if they weren't used as a tool of a foreign military intelligence operation against our country.

Was it really newsworthy? Was stolen data weaponized against one party. And yes, journalists have a responsibility to be RESPONSIBLE with what they put out in the public domain.

Snickering about John Podesta’s risotto recipe is what people who’ve set out to ignore the genuinely revelatory information contained in the emails tend to do

Whats funny is that no one has a problem with publishing false Pentagon-driven propaganda. If I invite a "military expert" onto my primetime show and inadvertently become a force multiplier for American Interests™, no one would yell at me except maybe @adamjohnsonNYC

Newsworth and weaponized are not mutually exclusive descriptions of the information. My question is "are journalists supposed to be just machines or are they subject to some sort of ethics about what they report?"

This wasn’t Watergate or the Pentagon Papers. It was obvious in real time you were being manipulated. A real journalist would admit they got played & learn from it. Stop using the real threats actual journalists face to excuse your refusal to see past your ideological agenda

Josh Rogin is really trying hard to gas light this issue. Since when does the source of newsworthy information HAVE to be an American in order to keep the journalist safe from accusations like his?

Weird connecting the two when you know reporters are being disparaged for doing their job *in general*, not just any reporting about Trump collusion claims.

Or take a second to review the information and realize that Podesta’s risotto recipe really wasn’t newsworthy? Instead of frantically rushing to publish for clicks?
