The funny part is Trump has taken far more consequential actions that are averse to Russia's interests (expelling diplomats, sending arms to Ukraine, approving sanctions, repeatedly bombing their client state) than Germany's, but listen to US media you'd assume the exact opposite

Nah, it was more: why would just spew absolute BS? Those things were all either a) forced upon Trump by lawmakers/agencies or b) actually not adverse to Russia (Syria bombing)

Trump was “forced” to expel diplomats? How so? Wasn’t he the one elected president? And you’re arguing that Russia welcomed the bombing of their client state? How do you think the US would react if one of its client states were bombed?

That’s not even a “good” thing. Arming Ukraine and bombing Syria go against what Trump campaigned on and are both bad ideas. Trouble is, had he not done either of those, it would’ve been interpreted as further evidence of the conspiracy. An all-around warped dynamic

I’m sure you can figure the diplomat thing out by yourself (hint: it was a coordinated NATO action) and would I be mad if one of US client states was bombed? Well, no, not if it means that a year later, I can have the meddling other country out of my client state’s hair forever

Being deliberately obtuse. He reluctantly did the bare minimum that could skate by pressure from Congress and the public. Didn’t sign sanctions into law that were overwhelmingly passed and just released a symbolic “list”. And he was furious that he had to. All just appearances.
