It's especially relevant that they both went to the same elite feeder prep school because that culture is even more insular than Yale/Harvard. Those kids are cultivated from birth to ascend to power. They're living embodiments of the lie of meritocracyhttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1016547809842089984 …

LOL, what a joke. The Republican-controlled senate would have moved heaven and earth to make sure anyone he nominated got confirmed. His infatuation with people who are "smart" in the sense of having the correct elite credentials is what led to this choice.

You’re missing the point- this is game everyone is forced to play otherwise the opposing political party will have too much dirt to muddy the waters. Hate the game, not the players.

It's a fine school. I have non-elite friends whose kids went there. They sacrificed a lot to send them to a great school. Sidwell Friends is more of the elitist-pipeline school in DC. But that doesn't fit your narrative, especially since the Obama girls went there, amirite?

I get some of what you’re after. Could you explain, though, why their shared high school isn’t simply parallel to, say, many NBA stars being groomed through, say, Oak Hill Academy? Could it still have been merit-based that they went to Georgetown Prep in the first place?

Maybe you should try answering this question: Do you need deep expertise in the law to be a Supreme Court Justice? I would like to hear your thoughts.

America wasn’t always like this. Canada is much less like this imo. Not saying there’s no elite but lotta space for meritocratic ascension. I know of plenty in my lifetime. Y’all come on up

It could also be a sign that dc public schools are terrible and that both families worked in government.
