The reason that the outlandishly nefarious explanation has progressively come to be seen as the correct one has more to do with the sheer *volume* of news -- it's a daily deluge -- than the plausibility of any one given news item, none of which on their own hold up to scrutiny

That also explains why the story is such a commercial goldmine: endless 'scoops' to ferret out, each with the promise of foretelling some BOMBSHELL endgame. It's such an irresistible tease. The boundaries of the story never stop expanding, which means infinite potential material
