Be sure to inform the people whose life expectancies have dropped, social/familial bonds have frayed, pensions have evaporated, and brains have been ravaged by depression that they're indulging in "nostalgic bullshit" because today there are 900 channels on TVpic.twitter.com/R3vlXFBlmd

Life expectancy in 1968 was under 70 years. Today it’s 78.7 years. Drugs that didn’t exist in 1968 saved my life in 2015-17. Maybe you have an argument things are worse than 2005 for certain sub-demographics? But certainly not 1968.

Maybe a worthy life can't be measured exclusively in terms of the availability of pharmaceuticals?

You certainly seem to spend a great percentage of your life taking advantage of post-1968 technology and 21st century freedoms, but maybe you don’t feel your life is worthy. More Americans died in 1968 Vietnam than in all the post-Vietnam wars combined. 1968 seriously sucked.

And many people perceive life today to "seriously suck." Appealing to technological advances and casualty data is not going to disabuse them of this perception. It's pure arrogance to declare that everyone burdened by pessimism is inherently deluded or irrational.
