Because the Party apparatus did not facilitate her rise in any sense, Ocasio-Cortez is not indebted to it, unlike the vast majority of people elected to Congress. So the incentives under which she'll operate differ hugely from the typical Dem. That's why the race was such a BFD

It's true that the Party as a whole remains largely calcified, and once she enters the caucus she'll be subject to all the usual conformity-enforcing pressures. But the exceptionally *unusual* route she took to office means she's uniquely positioned to resist those pressures

Most of those challengers are regular people with no money behind them (relative to their opponents). Few knew about AOC before her win but now she's a celebrity because people like her and her politics.
