Journalists obviously shouldn't be maliciously threatened, but let's be clear about something. The average journalist in the United States is in no way at risk of physical harm. Pretending otherwise inflates their collective ego. Try talking to commercial fishermen or roofers

No, they all have to live with the threat. The majority will never have to experience its actualization. You are conflating the two.
-
Not just the "majority," but virtually 100% will never have to experience its actualization. Which is why inflating the scope of the threat is counter-productive. Same exact logic applies to terrorist "threats."

99.999999999% of students, journalists, roofers, and commercial fisherman etc, never have to deal with the threat of being lightly grazed by Maxine Waters as she brushes by them, but that didn’t stop you from shrieking like somebody tossed a cat in the shower with you.pic.twitter.com/s2zaSHKmVs

During the 2015-16 school year alone, 9% of schools had to deal with the threat of violence involving a weapon. Considering a student puts in 13 years before graduation, that 9% annual figure gets scary really fast. How did you come up with your number? https://nces.ed.gov/pubs2017/2017122.pdf …

I feel like you're mistaking "deal with" -- which you want to mean "experience," and "deal with" -- which is what the rest of us are talking about: Every day students have to think about (i.e. deal with) whether today is their day to be a shooting statistic.

Michael just dropping by to say I can't doing stand you. I've never said that to anyone before. It just seems your whole aim in life is to try and be as fking unhelpful and cross-purpose as possibke at every point in history. Good day.

99.999999% of Americans will never be a victim of terrorism either. Yet it seems our entire foreign and domestic policy is based on battling it.

This is dumb. I can use the same stat for general terrorism, but we fundamentally morphed into this aggressive security state because of it.

“Securitize” is a financial term, and nonsense in this context.

Participating in active shooter drills is dealing with it.

So I guess we should never have fire drills either? This is an idiotic argument. Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Maybe you should try learning basic math,
@mtracey? Aprox 0.01% of students over the past 19 years have had to deal with a shooter at school. Aprox the same as the % of HS basketball players that go on to play in the NBA.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

You know even less about significant figures than you do about being a journalist.

99.999999999% of students is all students. You’re saying no students have to deal with that threat. That’s not right.
