Journalists obviously shouldn't be maliciously threatened, but let's be clear about something. The average journalist in the United States is in no way at risk of physical harm. Pretending otherwise inflates their collective ego. Try talking to commercial fishermen or roofers

Not at all. But trends have to start somewhere. My main concern was the ridiculous invalidity of the comparison. I’m in health care. Nurses and doctors get targeted all the damn time. Look at abortion clinic docs and nurses. Don’t want journalists to end up in that demographic
-
And there's no good reason to believe they will. Nothing bothers me more than threat inflation, which always leads to unreason and hysteria

I guess non-American journalists don’t count?

The past 15 years in the US? That’s 3 too many of course, but still low. But it must exclude US journos abroad? (and obviously foreign ones)
-
Inflating a journalist’s ego is often not too hard to do. Threats and violence is by far the least productive way to achieve that goal. I don’t think neglecting or conflating the dangers and obstacles in their work do much in that respect either.

apparently you don't understand the toll constant threats and harassment takes on someone's mental and physical well-being.

One was assaulted by a congressman last year, who apologized later. Things are happening that never happened before. It's easy to forget all that has happened with so much news every day, but we need to *not* forget.

Surely you mean “in the US by mass shooters”. The threat of journalists killed by terrorists is threat inflation. Killed or inprisoned by governments worldwide isn’t (and much less mentioned), I would qualify.

In the US. Herr Drumf's BFF Vlaf makes a habit of targeting journalists.

So,
@mtracey, you just basically with your numbers proved the point that journalists were safe until this administration.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Casual, if uncredible threats have been rising steadily over the last 2-3 years; 3 journalists in the last 15 years then 5 yesterday, just yesterday, &you’re “Whatever, don’t worry about heightened violent rhetoric against journalists,&be nicer to Nazis!” You are awful go away

When you say in the past 15yrs only 3 journalists have been murdered are you specifically talking about the U.S.? If so you should clarify.

Humans have always felt more threatened by malice than accidents. Its reasonable to take that into consideration
-
That’s why politics focuses on those threats instead. Much easier to motivate people based on that type of fear.
